34 Cancrum Oris patients for surgical operation at Noma Hospital

A team of plastic Surgeons arrived Sokoto Thursday for a three- week surgical operation on cancrum oris disease for 34 patients screened from states in the country.
Noma Hospital, which is the only one in the West African Sub-region, has for 15 years been performing surgical operations on diseases that mostly affect skin.
Chief Medical Director of the hospital Dr. Bello Ahmad said the invited seven members of the team are expected to operate 34 of the 40 screened patients, adding that the remaining six have severe fever and therefore cannot be touched until after recovery from fever.
Accordingly, feeding, drugs are issued free and on some occasions provide transport fares to distant patients after being discharged.
The 54th team since the inception of the hospital 15 years ago currently operated six females and two male patients. All the patients are from Delta, Kaduna and Zamfara states.
Dr. Bello said for seven years government of Kebbi state has been giving one hundred thousand naira monthly cash assistance and implore philanthropists ,well wishers, friends and general public to assist as most of the patients need assistance. He then commended Sokoto Cement Company and Zakkat Committee for their tireless contribution.
