The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) Bauchi State Branch has offered free medical services to over 1, 000 kinsmen of Governor Bala Mohammed in Duguri village, Alkaleri local government area of the state.
The medical outreach was part of the activities slated to mark the 2020 physicians week in the state organized by the Association with the theme: “Strategies for Health System Recovery during the COVID 19 pandemic in Nigeria.”
The Branch Chairman, Dr. Adamu Sambo, in his speech during the flag-off of the exercise, explained that malaria, blood pressure, sugar, hepatitis tests would be conducted ad well as general consultation and health education on burning health issues to the people of the area.
He said as medical doctors, they have social responsibility to the society one of which is offering free medical services to the poor people.
According to him, the association would donate drugs to some patients and prescribe to others whose drugs are not available.
The village head of Duguri, Alhaji Ibrahim Baba, in a response, expressed appreciation to the doctors for the gesture saying they brought succour to the downtrodden residents of the village.
Baba who was represented by Malam Idris Yunusa, appealed to government and other non governmental organizations to also carry out similar exercise in the area.
