No fewer than six travellers have died as a result of ghastly auto crash when bandits opened fire on commuters along Kaduna-Birnin Gwari road in Kaduna State.
In a statement by the State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Mr Samuel Aruwan, said the bandits who were on the run from aggressive patrols in the Birnin Gwari general area, took to the highway around Ungwan Dangedda, and shot at several vehicles.
According to the statement, the driver of one commercial vehicle was hit, and lost control of the vehicle, which somersaulted many times before coming to a stop, while the bandits fled the location.
The statement further stated that, rescue efforts revealed that six persons died on the spot from the crash while other six suffered injuries.
Governor Nasiru El-Rufai expressed sadness at the report, and prayed for the repose of the souls of those who died in the crash.
He however, prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured while Security patrols would continue in the general area.
