The Federal Road Safety Corp (FRSC) has confirmed the death of three children and five adults in a lone fatal crash that occurred at Kili Village along Darazo-Kari road in Darazo Local Government Area of Bauchi State.
The FRSC Sector Commander, Yusuf Abdullahi, who made the confirmation to journalists in the state late Thursday night, said that seven other people sustained varying degrees of injuries in the fatal crash that occurred on Thursday at 12.02am.
He said that the lone traffic crash involved a commercial Volkswagen Sharon Minibus, gray in colour belonging to the National Union of Road Transport Workers, with the number plate: BCH 465 XA.
Abdullahi said that 15 people – four male adults, six female adults, two male children and three female children, were in the vehicle when the incident occurred.
He said: “The crash, according to our reports gathered, was caused by a tyre burst which caused the driver to lose control of the steering.
“Immediately we got the report of the crash at 12.05am, our rescue team rushed to the scene within five minutes and evacuated the victims to the Darazo General Hospital for confirmation and treatment.
“When they got there, a medical doctor confirmed three male adults, two female adults, two male children and one female child, dead.
“One male adult, four female adults and two female children who sustained various degrees of injuries including fractures, bruises and head injuries are currently being treated in the hospital.”
The FRSC boss said that some personal belongings of the victims were retrieved from the scene while the obstructions were cleared.
Abdullahi advised drivers to always ensure that their vehicles are in good condition before embarking on any kind of journey.
