Boat accident
A devastating boat accident in Nafada town, Gombe State, left five teenagers dead on Saturday, plunging the community into mourning.
The victims were identified as Najib Ibrahim (18), Hauwa’u Dogal (15), Ummati Baraya (16), Umaira Gidado (16), and Amina Jaliya (15).
Governor Inuwa Yahaya expressed profound grief over the heartbreaking incident in a condolence message released by his media aide, Ismaila Uba-Misilli, on Sunday.
Describing the occurrence as “painful and heart-wrenching,” Yahaya lamented the loss of such young lives, noting that the tragedy had brought unimaginable sorrow to their families and the entire Nafada community.
> “This tragic incident has cut short the lives of promising young people,” the governor said, extending his sympathies to the bereaved families and residents of Nafada.
He added that the incident was not only a personal loss to the families but also a tragedy that touched every corner of Gombe State.
The governor prayed for the repose of the victims’ souls and strength for their grieving families, urging adherence to safety measures on waterways to avert similar disasters.
Yahaya also directed the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) and the Nafada Local Government Council to offer immediate assistance to the affected families, while calling on community leaders and boat operators to enforce safety regulations in riverine areas.
> “On behalf of the government and people of Gombe State, I extend our deepest sympathies,” Yahaya said, praying that God forgives the victims’ shortcomings and grants them eternal peace.
