UEFA has picked Barcelona’s renovated Spotify Camp Nou to host the 2029 Champions League final, choosing it ahead of Wembley Stadium in London.
UEFA announced on September 11 that the Allianz Arena in Munich will host the 2028 final, followed by Camp Nou in 2029.
Camp Nou’s selection stands out because the stadium is still being renovated. By the time Europe’s biggest club final arrives in Barcelona, the project will have faced one of its biggest tests yet: hosting an event watched by millions around the world.
Barcelona manager Hansi Flick welcomed the decision, saying the finished stadium would provide an impressive setting for the occasion.
“It’s great news for the Club. In this stadium, when it’s finished, I think it will be incredible,” Flick said.
Wembley was also bidding for the 2029 final and has hosted the Champions League showpiece three times since 2011. UEFA, however, opted to take the event back to Barcelona.
The timing could also prove important for Spain’s plans for the 2030 FIFA World Cup, which will be co-hosted by Spain, Portugal and Morocco. A successful Champions League final would give Camp Nou a major opportunity to demonstrate that it is ready for football’s biggest international stage, although FIFA will ultimately decide which stadium hosts the World Cup final.
Munich will return to the Champions League final calendar in 2028, just three years after the Allianz Arena hosted the 2025 edition. Paris Saint-Germain won that final 5-0 against Inter Milan.
UEFA also awarded the next two Europa League finals to Bucharest and Belgrade, while Turin and Budapest will host the Conference League finals.
Astana in Kazakhstan will host the 2028 UEFA Super Cup, the first time the country will stage the annual fixture.
The 2026/27 Champions League final is scheduled for Atletico Madrid’s Metropolitano Stadium.
