FCT Minister Nyesom Wike
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has reaffirmed his support for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027, while insisting that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will still present candidates for governorship, National Assembly and State House of Assembly elections.
Wike said his support is strictly for President Tinubu and should not be interpreted to mean that the PDP will withdraw from other elections.
The minister made the clarification in a statement issued on Tuesday by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka.
He also explained that the “rainbow coalition” has no connection with the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing it as a platform bringing together members of different political parties who believe President Tinubu deserves a second term.
Wike recalled that neither he nor other members of the G5 met with the APC before supporting Tinubu during the 2023 presidential election.
According to him, his position for 2027 remains unchanged.
“What I said and stand for is that I will mobilise support for the reelection of the President. I never promised anyone that PDP will not field candidates to contest governorship, National Assembly and States House of Assembly elections.
“Most importantly, rainbow coalition has nothing to do with the APC. Rather, it is own way of mobilising support accross political parties for Mr President, who has done well to deserve a second term,” he said.
Wike urged political stakeholders to concentrate first on securing President Tinubu’s re-election before focusing on elections in their respective states.
He said, “after the President must have been reelected, we can all go and face elections in our States.”
