Max Dowman
I6-year old teen, Max Dowman, scored twice as Arsenal defeated Ipswich Town 4-2 at Portman Road to book their place in the next round of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night.
Dowman opened the scoring in the seventh minute before adding his second two minutes after the restart, giving Arsenal a comfortable advantage.
The teenager, who came through Arsenal’s Hale End academy, showed composure beyond his years as he twice found the net to put his side in control of the tie.
Noni Madueke extended Arsenal’s lead, while Mikel Merino made it 4-0 in the 58th minute.
Ipswich pulled one back through Anis Mehmeti in the 62nd minute and Chuba Akpom added another in stoppage time, but Arsenal held on to secure the victory.
For Arsenal, the result keeps their winning start to the season going, but much of the attention was on Dowman, whose two goals made him the standout performer on a night when the 16-year-old took centre stage.
