ADC Presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar
Former Vice President and African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has approved a lean and people-driven Presidential Campaign Council, saying the structure reflects the economic realities facing Nigerians ahead of the 2027 general election.
The campaign team, according to Atiku, is designed to operate with discipline and focus at a time when many Nigerians are grappling with rising living costs, unemployment and insecurity.
The announcement was made in a statement issued on Thursday in Abuja by the Director of Strategic Communication of the ADC Presidential Campaign Council and Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication to the former vice president, Phrank Shaibu.
According to the statement, businessman Kashim Ibrahim-Imam will serve as Chairman of the Campaign Council, while former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has been appointed Deputy Chairman.
It added that Senator Austin Akobundu will serve as the Director-General and Campaign Manager, with responsibility for coordinating the council’s activities.
The statement further disclosed that six Deputy Directors-General will supervise key operational directorates, while 30 directors have been assigned specific responsibilities.
Veteran journalist and publisher Dele Momodu will head the Media and Communications Directorate, while former Kogi West Senator Dino Melaye will lead the Contact and Mobilisation Directorate.
On policy development, Mohammed Hayatudeen will chair the Policy Team alongside Professor Mohammed Sagagi and other members, including former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Professor Kingsley Moghalu.
Former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief John Oyegun, will serve as Chairman of the Campaign Advisory Board.
Explaining the philosophy behind the appointments, the statement said: “This is a structure built for work. Every directorate has a duty. Every director has an assignment. Every appointee must account for results.”
It added: “Our measure of success will be how clearly we address the cost of living, unemployment, insecurity and declining purchasing power—and how effectively we organise to make Nigeria affordable again.”
The campaign said the council was deliberately designed to remain compact while focusing on practical solutions to the challenges confronting Nigerians.
Atiku Abubakar is the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the 2027 general election. Political parties have intensified preparations for the polls by unveiling campaign structures and key officials expected to coordinate nationwide mobilisation. The ADC says its campaign will focus on addressing the rising cost of living, insecurity, unemployment and other economic challenges affecting Nigerians, as the contest for the presidency gathers momentum.
