Atiku backs ‘Tinubu Must Go’ campaign after poll gives him 73.6% support

Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has formally endorsed the Tinubu Must Go (TMG) nationwide campaign after a recent opinion poll by the movement showed him as the preferred presidential candidate of a majority of participants.

Atiku, who is the 2027 Presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) announced his support on Monday after receiving Abba Hikima Esq, one of the leading conveners of the Tinubu Must Go campaign, who briefed him on the outcome of the movement’s recently concluded nationwide poll.

According to Atiku, the poll attracted 109,799 respondents, with 73.6 per cent voting in support of his candidacy. He added that participants also chose the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as their preferred political platform.

Reacting to the outcome, Atiku said he was encouraged by the level of public participation in the exercise.

“I am particularly encouraged by the depth of citizen engagement reflected in the exercise, in which my candidacy received an overwhelming 73.6% of the votes, with the ADC emerging as the preferred political platform.”

The former Vice President said the poll was more than a political exercise, describing it as a reflection of Nigerians’ growing desire for change.

“Beyond the outcome of the poll, what is significant is the larger aspiration it represents: a growing national yearning for change and the collective determination to rescue Nigeria from its present trajectory.”

Atiku also declared his full support for the Tinubu Must Go movement and urged Nigerians who believe in its objectives to join the campaign.

“I fully endorse the movement and invite all Nigerians who share this aspiration to join this noble cause.”

He added that he was ready to engage with the national leadership of the movement as efforts continue to build a broad coalition ahead of the 2027 general election.

“I also look forward to engaging with the wider national leadership of the Tinubu Must Go movement as we work together towards the larger objective of rebuilding a united, prosperous and democratic Nigeria.”

The endorsement comes as opposition politicians continue consultations and alliance talks ahead of the next general election. Atiku, one of the leading figures in the opposition, has repeatedly called for a united front to challenge the ruling government, insisting that Nigeria needs a new direction to address economic hardship, insecurity and governance challenges.

The Tinubu Must Go campaign is one of several political movements that have emerged ahead of the 2027 elections, with supporters saying they are mobilising citizens around calls for political change. The presidency and supporters of President Bola Tinubu, however, have continued to defend the administration’s policies, arguing that ongoing reforms will deliver long-term benefits for Nigerians.
