Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has warned Nigerians against a fake website circulating online, falsely claiming that the Commission has reopened nationwide online voter registration.
In a statement posted on its official X account on Saturday, INEC described the website as fraudulent and urged members of the public not to visit the link or provide any personal information through it.
According to the Commission, the fake website falsely claims that a nationwide online voter registration exercise will run from September 28, 2026, to October 27, 2026.
“The Commission wishes to categorically inform the general public that the website below is FAKE and has no affiliation whatsoever with INEC,” the electoral body stated.
INEC also warned that anyone who clicks on the link or submits personal details on the website risks having sensitive personal information harvested or misused by fraudsters.
The Commission clarified that the last nationwide voter registration exercise ended on July 26, 2026, stressing that any claim suggesting a fresh online registration exercise is currently ongoing is false.
“The voter registration exercise closed on 26th July 2026. Any information suggesting that a new nationwide online voter registration exercise is currently ongoing through the above mentioned website is false,” INEC said.
The Commission advised Nigerians to remain vigilant and verify every election-related announcement through its official communication channels.
It also urged citizens to disregard the fraudulent website and rely only on information released by INEC through its official website, news portal, verified social media platforms and other approved channels.
As preparations continue for future elections, INEC said protecting voters from misinformation and online scams remains important, urging Nigerians to be cautious of unofficial websites requesting personal information.
