ARMSTRONG ALLAHMAGANI, Bauchi –
A group of northern youths, Arewa Youths for Peace and Security, has hailed the judgement by a Federal High Court sitting in Umuahia which dismissed the forgery suit against the spokesman of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu.
Recall that one Okey Ezeala had filed a suit against the lawmaker alleging name forgery on his academic certifications and claiming that there was a name discrepancy in his certificates.
But Justice A.O. Chijioke, while delivering his judgement, dismissed the suit against Rep. Benjamin Kalu, describing it as malicious.
The National Chairman of the group, Alhaji Salihu Magaji, who made the group’s position known at a press conference on Thursday in Bauchi, said the court had vindicated the lawmaker and his political opponents were jittery over the judgement.
He said: “We are very happy that the Federal High Court sitting in Abia state dismissed the suit filed against the Spokesperson of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu over allegations of forgery.
“We know Kalu is a gentleman, hard working lawmaker and a democrat who mean well for the unity of the country.”
Alhaji Magaji said the Lawmaker had played his own part and “posterity would not fail to place him on the right side of history.
“He is a correct gentleman, a detrabilised Nigerian who went to Sokoto, Kano and all northern states preaching the importance of living together in Nigeria under one nation.
“He works towards the unity of the country in order to achieve sustainable peace and development in the country.”
He said when the case lingered in Court for over one year, the group was confident that Kalu would win because they had confidence in the ability of the judiciary to sustain justice especially “when the facts speak so clearly for themselves and we were certain that the judiciary would sustain their fairness and gladly they did not disappoint us.”
