By ARMSTRONG ALLAHMAGANI, Bauchi –
The executives of the Kukadi/Gundari Ward of the All Progressives Congress in Misau Local Government Area of Bauchi State, have expelled the State Chairman of the Party, Babayo Misau, for alleged engagement in anti- party activities during the March 18th governorship election.
The Ward Secretary, Aliyu Adamu, while speaking during a press briefing at the NUJ Secretariat, Bauchi, said that the leadership took the decision in order to save the party and instill discipline among members of the party in Misau Local Government Area and the State in general.
Adamu, who was accompanied by other executives of the party in the Ward, said the decision to expel the State Chairman came after a series of meetings by the party in Misau LGA where it was agreed that the action should be taken adding that the action of the party chairman cost the APC vital votes during the series of elections particularly the governorship election.
He further alleged that Misau did not vote for the gubernatorial candidate of the APC pointing out therefore, that the Ward Executives found it necessary to expel the State Chairman in order to give the party a lifeline in its rebuilding process.
“The State Chairman, Babayo Aliyu Misau, abandoned the leadership responsibilities he had in the APC especially how he avoided the campaigns of candidates of the party from the gubernatorial candidate to the National and State Assemblies.
“Secondly, his lackadaisical attitude which he showed during the governorship and State Assembly elections in the State. In fact, despite being the State Chairman of the APC, he didn’t vote for the gubernatorial candidate. Thirdly, his attitude discouraged or hindered many people from voting for the APC in the elections that have just been conducted.
“We decided among ourselves that we have removed his name from the register and invalidated the card which made him a member of the APC. We took this decision in line with the constitution of the party with the approval of all members of the APC in Kukadi/Gundari Ward in Misau Local Government Area of Bauchi State. All the executives endorsed the expulsion,” he stated.
Reacting to his expulsion from the Party, Misau insisted that he was still the State Chairman of the party and dismissed his purported expulsion, describing it as ineffective because it was not done in accordance with the established procedures, guidelines and constitution of the APC.
He said: “I remain the APC state chairman in Bauchi and I have not been removed because due process was not adhered to. Their action is an act of ignorance and those who announced my expulsion are not leaders of the party, we have a ward leader of our party.”
The party chairman added that: “We will meet in court because what they did was a pure exhibition of personal interest and unconstitutional.”
