PATRICK ABANG Calabar –
A chieftain of The People’s Democratic party (PDP), Bar. Mark Obi has been attacked in his country home in Oku Boki LGA of Cross River State by thuggs suspected to be sponsored by a rival political party.
Barrister Obi, who was a two term member of the Cross River State House of Assembly representing Boki 2 has been taken to a private hospital in Okundi Boki where he is said to be in a critical condition.
He had resigned from Governor Ben Ayade’s government following his defection from the PDP to the APC.
Our correspondent gathered that there had been rivalry between the former lawmaker and the Special Adviser to Governor Ben Ayade on Forestry, Christopher Obi Bisong popularly called “general Iron Obi” over the Borum Estate leading to the destruction of Mark house by some hoodlums last year.
Confirming the incident, Justice Angela Obi, the victim’s wife told our correspondent that: “I do not know what happened because I was not there, I am heading to the village right now”
But investigation by our reporter shows that it may not be unconnected with the recent defection from the PDP to the APC going on across the State as those who refused to defect are allegedly prone to attacks.
As at the time of filing this report, Bar. Mark has been moved from Okundi Boki to Ikom where he is said to be receiving treatment.
The Special Adviser to Governor Ben Ayade on Forestry would not be reached as at the time of going to press.
