THE 8 Division of the Nigeria Army, Sokoto, at the weekend distributed palliatives to no fewer than 500 households in Amanawa leprosy and Lugga community all in Dange shuni local government areas of the state.
The gesture was part of the Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Yusuf Buratai’s contribution towards the federal government Covid 110 palliative.
It was also to mark the Army’s Day and commemorate it’s 157 years of meritorious service to the country.
Presenting the gesture on behalf of Lt Gen. Buratai, the Chief of Staff to 8 Div Command, Brig-General Hamidu Musa, said the theme of 2020 Army Day celebration is, “Nigeria’s Territorial Defence and Soverntiy: Imperatives for Nigerian Army’s Sustained Training and Operations.”
Buratai further stressed that by impacting on the lives of the civilians, the Nigeria Army is doing part of their military/civilian relationship.
Said Buratai, “The Nigeria Army celebration has a long history that we don’t want us to go into for now.
“What the army has put in place today through this gesture like always is to extend our hands of brotherhood to enable them know that we all share in their predicaments, especially in the wake of the Covid 19.”
Speaking on his part, the 8 Div Acting GOC, Bri Gen Muhammad Bande, represented by the Garrison Commander, Brig Gen Moses Gara said Buratai keyed into the federal government Initiative by giving palliatives to the vulnerable of the communities.
And to further allow for a peaceful state and nation, Buratai also urged the locals not to hesitate in giving useful information to the army to enable them secure the lives and property of Nigerians.
Reacting to the palliative gesture, the Director of Adminstration, Amanawa Infectious hospital, Alhaji Abubakar Umar Salame, who represented the Cheif Medical Director, Dr Usman Bello thanked the Army, adding that, they will continue to be prayerful for the restoration of security in any affected place.
The leader of healed leppers in Amanawa (Sarkin Kwutare, Amanawa) Samaila Maigari, and the community head of Lugga, Ardo Musa expressed satisfaction with the gesture by the Nigerian Army on behalf of all beneficiaries.
