By ARMSTRONG ALLAHMAGANI, Bauchi-
The Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed, has released the sum of N1 billion as loan to the state’s fertilizer company to enable it commence production for the 2021 farming season.
The governor who disclosed this when he paid a visit to the company in continuation of his projects inspection tour across the state, said his government has settled the outstanding debt of N700 million, which was inherited from the previous administration of Mohammed Abubakar.
He said: “Our lives in Bauchi solely depends on farming. Yes, we have workers that we use most of our share of the federal allocation of N6 or N7 billion for the state and local governments just to pay salaries”.
“But the remaining people that feed us including the civil servants, are the 99 percent and that is why we will not joke with farming. We inherited an old practice where fertilizer was used to play politics, we assure you that we will not use politics to play politics”.
“There is no free fertilizer or fertilizer for seeking for votes, we will only work for the people. Fertilizer is the bedrock of eating food. The amount of money we owe which prevented us from getting support from the Fertilizer Initiative of the federal government from the Sovereign Wealth Fund was N700 million. By God’s help, we were able to pay that debt”.
“We had to look for ISBO to show that we have given a loan of N1 billion to this Company to use as capital to produce fertilizer and seek at a subsidized rate to the people and make some little profits to sustain it.”

He tasked the management of the company to reciprocate the gesture by making good use of the funds and improving the supply of the product to farmers.
Earlier, The Chairman, Bauchi State Fertilizer Blending Company, Bappa Misau, thanked the governor for releasing the N1 billion loan to the company, while assuring him of immediate commencement of fertilizer production in the State.
He informed the governor that some of the parts used to put the plant in order which were usually imported from Germany, US and others, were produced in Bauchi.
Misau promised the governor that the management of the Company will not fail to deliver on the trust he has in them.
