A teenager and three others have been arrested in connection with the gruesome murder of the Member of the State House of Assembly representing Dass Constituency, Hon. Musa Baraza, the Bauchi State Police Command has stated.
NATIONAL ACCORD had reported that the Lawmaker was attacked and murdered in cold blood in his house in Dass on Friday, 14th August, 2020, by unknown gunmen.
The gunmen whose number was not known also kidnapped the slain Lawmaker’s two wives and new born baby during the attack.
Governor, Bala Mohammed, who first disclosed the arrest of the suspects when he received the Catholic Bishop of Bauchi Diocese, Most Rev. Bishop Hilary Dachelem, during a courtesy visit at the GoverNment House recently, however did not give details of the arrest.
But the Police Public Relations Officer, Bauchi State Command, Ahmed Wakil, in a statement made available to journalists on Friday, said that four suspects, including a teenager, were arrested.
He said: “On 14th November, 2020 at about 1.04am, one Abdulrazak Mohammed, (29), Abdulmumini Umar (29), Yusuf Mohammed, (18) and Mas’ud Hassan (22) all males of Bauchi town, were arrested in connection to the case of gruesome killing of Hon. Musa Mantai Baraza, the Member representing Dass Constituency, Dass L.G.A Bauchi State.
“The suspects also kidnapped his two wives and one daughter named; Rashida mal. Musa (35), Rahina Mal. Musa, (30) and Khausar Mal. Musa (18 months), and took them to an unknown destination.
“They also robbed him eight different phones all valued at N300,000:00 thereafter shoot him dead.”
He said that upon receipt of the report, a joint operation between IRT and Command detectives swung into action and rescued the victims adding that the above mentioned suspects were also arrested.
According to him, during investigation, the deceased’s phone, Tecno Handset, with MTN sim card werr recovered in their possession.
He said that investigation is still in progress after which suspects will be charged to court for prosecution and possible conviction.
Wakil, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, also said that a group of suspected hoodlums notorious for snatching motorcycles, allegedly attacked and machetted one man and stole his motorcycle valued at N270,000.
He said that one of the suspectswas arrested and mobbed to death.
“On the 1st December, 2020 at about 7am, following a credible information received from a good Samaritan at Zaki Divisional Police Headquarters that on the same date at about 2.30am, a group of hoodlums armed with bows and arrows and cutlasses and numbering about five suspected to be motorcycle snatchers, invaded Duwaduwa village murmur ward via Sakwa district a remote area.
“They attacked and matchetted one Muhammadu Adamu, Male of Duwaduwa village with cutlasses in his house located at Duwaduwa village and afterwards robbed him of his brand new Bajaj motorcycle unregistered valued about N270,000.
“The victim while lying down in a pool of his blood raised an alarm causing angry villagers to mobilize and chase the hoodlums.
“They eventually arrested one of the suspects identified as Sani Alhaji Dalori, Male, suspected to be among the gang.
“The angry villagers mobbed him to death while the remaining gang members escaped with the motorcycle to an unknown destination,” he said.
The Police Spokesman said that upon the receipt of the information, a team of detectives led by the Divisional Police Officer, visited the scene of the crime and moved the corpse of the suspected hoodlum to the General Hospital Zaki for postmortem.
He said that during investigation, a search was conducted at the house of the suspect and one locally made Sub-Mqchine Gun riffle was recovered.
Similarly, Wakil said that on 23rd November, 2020 at about 10.10am, one Dahiru Isyaku, Male of Disa village Warji LGA came to Warji Divisional Headquarters and reported that his younger brother one Naziru Musa, (20) of the same address was found lying unconscious in the bush along Ningi -Disa village road near Unguwar Babaji and his motorcycle, a Bajaj Boxer unregistered valued at N250,000.00 was robbed by unknown person(s).
According to him, on the strength of the report, a team of detectives swung into action chased the suspects and eventually, arrested two suspects, Abdullahi Suleiman, of Tibako village and Ibrahim Musa, Male of Gwam village Ningi LGA at neighboring Jigawa State in collaboration with personnel at Sara via Gwaram LGA.
He said that the stolen motorcycle was equally recovered. Investigation is on progress adding that the Commissioner of Police, Lawan Jimeta, directed that the case be transferred to State Criminal Investigation Department for discreet investigation.
The Police PRO said that “the Commissioner of Police Bauchi State Police Command, CP Lawan Tanko Jimeta, directed all suspects to be profiled and charged to court.
“The Command further calls resident of the state to remain vigilant, law-abiding and promptly report suspected criminal or act of criminality to the nearest Police Station.
“The CP also assured that maximum security measures has been put in place in all nooks and crannies within and outside the state to ensured hitch free celebration during yuletide period.”
