Following the outcomes of the recent elections of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) held in the eastern part of the country, the Sokoto State Chapter of the union has admonished those that won to be magnanimious in victory.
The Sokoto State chapter of NUJ in a statement signed by its Secretary, Abubakar Imam on behalf of its Chaiman, Isa Abubakar Shuni, said the welfare and job security of members should be amongst their list of priorities.
While appealing to the re-elected Izigozu led national president of the union to initiate programmes and implement policies that will add value to members’ well-being, Imam stressed that the president should reach out to aggrieved members with a view to ensuring sustained union..
The statement readd in part, “The Sokoto state Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has congratulated the newly elected national leaders of the union and task them to work towards re uniting members of the union.
“It equally congratulates the newly elected Zonal Vice President and Secretary in charge of zone A, Muhammad Tukur Umar and Abdurrazak Bello Kaura.
“The national president should try to reach out to his co-contender and other aggrieved members with a view to rebuilding a formidable union.
“The new leaders of NUJ should also strive to lead the union to prosperity by intiating programmes that will improve the capacity, well-being and welfare of members”
