Members of the Correspondents’ Chapel of Benue State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has said that it would boycott the activities of Benue State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB).
This was contained in resolutions after an emergency congress of the chapel held at its secretariat ion Wednesday n Makurdi.
The resolution was signed by the Chapel Chairman, Emmanuel Antswen and Secretary Titus Atondo revealed that the decision became inevitable following what it described as unguided utterances of the Executive Chairman of the Board Dr Grace Adagba.
The Congress, according to the resolution revealed that during the visit by members of the Correspondents Chapel to her office, the SUBEB boss tagged journalists in Benue State including members of Correspondents’ Chapel as opposition party.
The chapel members recalled with displeasure that the SUBEB Chairman also accused journalists of under reporting governor Hyacinth Alia’s activities describing her position as unacceptable.
They also advised the SUBEB Chairman Dr Grace Adagba, to withdraw her uncomplimentary remarks and tender unreserved apology.
They however commended Governor Hyacinth Alia for his developmental strides within nine months of his administration, which it noted has earned him several awards including Governor of the Year Award by a reputable media organisation recently.
The Congress equally acknowledged the efforts of the media handlers of the governor, especially the Chief Press Secretary, Mr Tersoo Kula and the Principal Special Assistant Media and Publicity/Strategic Communication, Mrs Bridget Kyado for their attempts to resolve the issue.
The chapel added that it would not take lightly, any form of disrespect or demeaning utterances or statements from any member of the public against them.
