Reacting to the incident, the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah has urged the security agencies to bring those involved in the gruesome murder of Ms Deborah to book.
According to a statement the Bishop personally signed, he decried the ugly incident.
The statement by Bishop Kukah reads, “I have received with deep shock the news of the tragedy that has occured in the Shehu Shagari Collage of Education, leading to the gruesome murder of Ms Deborah Yakubu, a 200 level Home Economics Student today.
“We condemned this incident in the strongest terms and call on the authorities to investigate this tragedy and ensure that all the culprits are brought to book. The only obligation that is owed her immediate family, her fellow students and the school authorities is the assurance that those who are guilty of this inhuman act, no matter their motivation are punished according to extant laws of the land.
“This has nothing to do with Religion. Christians have lived peacefully with their Muslim neighbours here in Sokoto over the years. This matter must be treated as a criminal act and the law must take it’s cause”.
Bishop Kukah who admonished Christians to pray for the repose of her soul, equally pray God to grant the family the fortitude to bear the loss.

Hon Bajini while noting that the State Government has equally ordered immediate closure of the college, added that Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal is deeply pained by the incident but appealed to all to be law abiding as they awaits outcome of the investigation.
