
The body of Commodore Jerome Zemoh Jatau (rtd), who passed on in India on March 31, 2025 arrived Abuja on Thursday, according to family source.
Born in Kwoi Jaba Local Government Area of Kaduna State on 24 January 1962, Jatau attended the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), as a member of the 29 Regular Course and commissioned as Sub-Lt in 1984. He was a course mate of former Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff, Lt-General Tukur Yusuf Buratai.
He went to Command and Staff College Jaji for Junior Division course and Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College for Senior Division, after which he attended National Defense College Bangladesh, where he obtained a Masters Degree in Security and Strategic Studies.
Jatau was Operations Officer on board several Nigerian Navy Capital Ships in the country and Liberia during the ECOMOG Operations. He was the Commanding Officer of NNS OLOGBO, Commanding Officer Underwater and Diving School and Base Commander of NNS VICTORY. His last major appointment was as Chief Staff Officer Logistics Command Ogharra.
He retired voluntarily after 33 years of meritorious service.

Commodore Jatau, who enjoyed water sports and nature watch, was married to Mrs Saratu Jatau and the marriage is blessed with 2 daughters and 2 sons.
His funeral arrangements are to be released in due course, according to the family source.
