The Borno State Environmental Protection Agency (BOSEPA) in collaboration with Ministry of Environment have commenced the supervision of environmental sanitation exercise in the state.
The agency also unveiled a designated dumping site in Jajirir Community of Bolori II Ward of Maiduguri metropolis which was constructed by The UNDP and donated to the Borno State Government
These are part of the state government’s efforts in ensuring the sustainability and environmental scheme, tagged “Operation Keep Borno State Clean”.
The sanitation exercise which is scheduled for every first Saturday of every month was led by the General Manager, BOSEPA, Abubakar Suleiman within Maiduguri city and environs and supported by the Commissioner of Environment, Arc Yarima Saleh alongside the Permanent Secretary of the ministry.
The State Commissioner while Inspecting the sanitation exercise commended the sanitation vanguards and volunteers who participated in the exercise.
He also gave directives to all shops and markets to compile with the sanitation exercise laws by way of sanitizing their immediate environment, business premises, with an option to clean their places on Friday or before the exercise commenced.
He warned that any defaulter found guilty, will face the full wrath of the law while assuring the people of the continuity of the developmental programmes and policy that have direct bearing on them.
On his part, the General Manager, BOSEPA, Abubakar Suleimanalso commended the efforts of the sanitation committee which has been rendering special services especially the security agents and the media.
He charged them to discharge their responsibilities diligently and promised to maintain the cordial working relationship with the media and security.
The GM also urged the shop owners and some petty business men and women to obey the law during the monthly sanitation exercise by closing their businesses till after the exercise for three hours between 7am to 10:00am.
Other places where the team carried out the exercise include post office roundabout, Wulari area, Bulumkutu area, Ngomari Airport, Baga Road, kumshe area, Maiduguri Abatour area, Gamboru/ Custom Market, Bama motor park, Fori baypass among others.
Among the participants are General Manager Borno State Traffic Management Agency BOTMA , Baba Shehu Tijjani, Special Adviser on Environment, SSA, SA among others.
