The Borno State Police Command has arrested no fewer than 500 suspects for various crimes committed in different parts of the state.
Commissioner of Police, CP Yusuf Muhammad stated this at a press conference which was held on Monday at the Borno State Command Headquarters.
CP Muhammad highlighted notable achievements and breakthrough within the last three months (July to September, 2023), under review.
The Commissioner said the command recorded a total 30 arrest for SGBV and 30 for CULPABLE HOMICIDE while 36 suspects were arrested for disturbance and causing grievous hurt, 59 suspects for store and house breaking and theft, 14 vandalization mischief and theft, 339 suspects for public nuisance and disturbance of public peace and 5 kidnapping suspects and 7 criminal misappropriation and 46 for theft
He explained further that the outcome of investigations has a total of 135 cases and a total of 537 suspects arrested, total of 79 cases charged to court, 250 cases convicted and a total 14 cases awaiting trial.
According to him, the successes recorded in timely prosecution and conviction of the suspects is as a result of the recently accented Borno State Penal Code Law 2023 and Other Related Matters therein, which was recently assented as part of Government’s efforts to restore peace in the state for sustainable growth and development.
He noted also “that there were incidences of public interest worthy of mentioning to serve as a deterrent and a warning to all criminally minded individuals, that they don’t have a space to nestle in Borno state; as nobody would escape the long hand of the law once he is found culpable of committing any crime against persons or properties.
According to him, “On 16/09/2023 at about 1100hrs one Daniel Musa “m” of Panshani village via Gasi District of Shani Local Government Area of Borno state reported to the police that on the 13/09/2023 at about1200hrs his sister one Laraba Musa “F” 62yrs of the same area went to Sabon layin of landekato and while on her way coming back home along Phana river side, she suspected a movement from behind.
“Subsequently she heard a sound, and turned back and saw one Hamisu Dauda “M‟ 37yrs of the same address coming behind her, she stepped back for him to pass but he grabbed her and forcefully had canal knowledge of her after which he stole the sum of forty two thousand seven hundred naira N42,700 from her pocket, the case is under investigation.
The CP added that a culpable homicide occurred on the 16/09/2023 at about 1045hrs, where one Umar Goni Abubakar “M‟ 25yrs old of Water Board IDP Camp Monguno stabbed One Zarami Modu “M‟ 35yrs of the same address with a sharp knife as a result the victim sustained fatal injuries.
According to him, the genesis was that, on the 15/09/2023 he sighted the deceased standing with his wife one Hajja Fantami “F‟ of the same address at water pump and he suspected the deceased was enticing his wife. Suspect was arrested and the case is under investigation.
“While another suspects alleged to be involved in criminal offences conspiracy, robbery and having in possession a tricycle suspected to have been stolen was arrested in the names of : (1) Abubakar Abdullahi “M‟ 22yrs (2) Kurari “M‟ at large (3) Korokoro “M‟ at large (4) Saleh Moh‟d Hussaini “M‟ 23 yrs (5) Hussaini Balla, M‟ 20yrs (6) Fatima Moh‟d “F‟ 19yrs (7) Hauwa Abubakar „F‟ 20yrs (8) Amina Ahmed “F‟ 20yrs (9) Maryam Musa “F‟ 19yrs with Exhibits such as : (i) Two Tricycles “Keke Napep” (ii) Two (2) Cartons of Drugs “Sudrex Tablets” (iii) Sim Cards and ATM Cards (iv) Two Mobile Phone “Tecno” (v) Charms
“While acting on information, the police operatives of the command arrested one Abubakar Abdullahi A.K.A ALAMATO a notorious syndicate who specializes in cell phone snatching using tricycle „Keke Napep‟ under the guise of conveying commuters while In the course of investigation, search warrant was executed at the house and premises of the said Abubakar Alamato and exhibits mentioned above were recovered. Also, four female accomplices were arrested in the room of the suspect.
