Borno State Police Command has paraded no fewer than 67 suspects over alleged homicides, rape, possession of dangerous weapons, hard drugs and other crimes within the months of June and July, 2022.
The command’s spokesman, ASP Sani Muhammad disclosed this during a press briefing on Friday while parading the suspects at the police Headquarters in Maiduguri.
ASP Muhammad said the command was working hard to ensure that the state was rid of all crimes and not a safe heaven for criminals and unscrupulous elements.
This according to him informed the arrest of 67 suspects during the period under review.
He said: “In cases 1 and 2, the suspects were arrested in possession of dangerous weapons, causing hurts and threatening the life and safety of innocent citizens in the society and were arrested at different locations and at different times between the months of June and July across all the nooks and crannies of the state”.
“These were not unconnected with the gallantry and unwavering efforts of the personnel of the command as well as the information provided by some good citizens of the state and intelligence gathering by the officers”. He said.

In a similar vein, the police spokesman said 22 suspects mostly youths were caught in possession of drugs suspected to be Indian hemp.
“Unfortunately, mostly of the suspects are youths who are suppose to channel their efforts and ability toward profitable ventures in the society but they chose to be drug dealers and drug takers”, he said.
He also said: “ASP Isa Buba (M) and Yusuf Musa ‘M’ NDLEA in conjunction with Crack Squad Operatives arrested a suspect with 75 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition along Maiduguri/Damaturu road enr]oute to Asaba Delta state”.
The police spokesman added that with rigorous and intensive interrogation, the suspects confessed that he was given the consignment by a driver from Gamboru/Ngala (names not yet know), adding that the police are on the trail to arrest the suspected driver.
“Also, on the 15/06/2022 at about 2243hrs, one Zara Abubakar .F’ 40 yrs reported one Usman Hassan M’ 24yrs old, who resides in old Telari area Maiduguri to the I.T.E Police Division Maiduguri that the suspect lured her daughter, one Hajara Abubakar ‘F’ 10yrs old into an uncompleted building in the same area and forcefully had canal knowledge of her”.
He said the suspect has been arrested and the case is currently under investigation.
The police spokesman, however, said the command under the leadership of the Borno State Commissioner of Police , CP Abdu Umar warned that no criminal in the state would go unpunished while assuring that the suspects would all be investigated and charged to court
He also said the police is committed to deploying both kinetic and non-kinetic approaches in tackling crimes and to boost the public safety and security in the state.
