The Borno State Government has confirmed the arrival of 75,510 doses of the Oxford/Astrazeneca Covid-19 vaccine to the State.
The Deputy Governor, who is also the Chairman of the Borno State High Powered Committee on Prevention and Control of COVID-19 Spread, Hon Usman Umar Kadafur, confirmed the news on Tuesday night in an interview with newsmen at the Maiduguri International Airport.
Hon. Kadafur disclosed that the committee would meet today to decide on how and when to commence the COVID-19 vaccination in the state.
“When plans for the vaccination is ready, we will unveil it to you”, Kadafur said.
The COVID-19 state committee members including the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Professor Isa Hussaini Marte and other collaborating partners were at the airport yesterday at about 6. 30 PM waiting to receive the COVID-19 vaccine which finally arrived around 9 PM.
It was also gathered that the COVID-19 vaccine consignment would be conveyed under tight security to the cold room located the EPI center Maiduguri where it would be distributed accordingly after the resolution of the State COVID-19 committee scheduled meeting Wednesday morning in collaboration with the health partners like UNICEF and WHO.
