The Borno state government has distributed food items and cash amounting to N260 million to over 90,000 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and host community across different camps in onguno for them to celebrate Eid El Adha celebrations happily with their families.
Governor babagana Zulum, who spent over three days in the Monguno town during the Sallah, took time to personally supervised the distribution across all the 12 IDPs in the town.
While addressing the IDPs in Monguno , the governor said “the food items are to help the IDPs who cannot have the opportunity to farm to not only have food but to celebrate Sallah happily with their families.”
He said, “I want to appreciate President Muhsmmadu Buhari and the Federal government through the Northeast Development Commission (NEDC) for assisting the IDPs in the state at this crucial time.”
Each male beneficiary went home with a bag of grains, rice and Samovita each, while the female IDPs got a cash of N5000 each with additional food stuff.
A beneficiary, Mallam Garba Ibrahim, said “thank God we are happy today that Governor Zulum is here to distribute foods items and cash to our people. We really appreciate and pray for our Governor, may Allah continue to protect and guide him.”
Our correspondent who visited Monguno Market, reports that the IDPs were busy making last minute shopping for Sallah, as they were seeing buying, textiles, shoes, jewelries and food items among others.
A trader, Alhaji Abubakar Fusami, said “today, we are happy, as you can see; we are busy selling our goods, the amount of money injected in Monguno today, will really stimulate and boost the economy of the town.”
A buyer, Aishatu Hassan said ” we are grateful to the Borno state government for giving us the sum of N5,000 each. You can see we are happy, we are making our last minutes Sallah celebration. We thank God and we are grateful to our people governor. “
