The Chief of Defense Staff (CDS), General Lucky Irabor, has charges troops of Theater Command Headquarters, Operation Lafiya Dole Maiduguri to bring to an end all forms of insecurity bedeviling the North-Eastern part of the country.
He added that President Buhari has given the Nigerian military a mandate that must be achieved in terms of ending the violent insecurity within the theater,.
Addressing the troops on Saturday at the Theater Command Headquarters in Maimalari Cantonment Maiduguri, the CDS emphasised that: “you have been given a mandate by President Muhammadu Buhari to end all forms of insecurity in the North-East and that the mandate must be achieved”.
It would be recalled that this is the second time the CDS in company of the Service Chiefs is visiting the theater command in about a month and two weeks alongside the Chief of Army Staff, (COAS), Lt General Ibrahim Attahiru, Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Isiaku Amao and the Chief of Naval Staff (CNS), Vicrtims Admiral Auwal Gambo.
According to General Irabor: “We are working assiduously to see that all issues of violent insecurity, especially within the Operation Lafiya Dole must come to an end. I know t with he resolutions that your commanders are making and the commitment you have shown, we will achieve it”
“We are here with other service chiefs. This is the second time i am here in one month and about 2 weeks. We are here to see you, to see how far you have implemented the instructions given to you. Since we came, the theater commander and other commanders have been briefing us beyond the reports we received from the headquarters . We can only commend you for the resilience you have shown in the past one month. The various successes you have recorded in spite of the few draw backs, you have not been deterred “.
“Your commitment, resilience and determination is worthy of commendation. I felt it is necessary to express it to you, so that by extension, you will tell your colleagues that are not here. Even though, the theater commander and other commanders will be going to the front lines to pass the message to them but it is essential to tell you well done”. General Irabor said.
Speaking in an interview with journalists shortly after the addressing, the troops, the CDS said: “we are here on a routine operational visit which is meant to ginger and motivate our troops. We are also here to get to know challenges and solve problems m right at the front line operations.”
“Peace is a walk process as the security situation in the Northeast is not as bad as before . In due course every inch including the Tumbus (Islands) will be under Nigerian authority”, Irabor said.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Theater Commander, Operation Lafiya Dole, Major General Farouq Yahaya said: “within a month you have visited the theater command twice this show level of commitment and concern you attached to this operation”.
“We are assure you that we will not fail you and the country at large. We are highly morale and ever ready to end the war. We are committed and determined to achieve the mandate set for us”, Yahaya said.
