The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. General Attahiru Ibrahim has acknowledged and thanked all officers and soldiers in the frontline for their selfless service, commitment and their dedicattion in the fight against insurgency in the country.
General Attahiru gave the commendation on Monday during the Easter Luncheon organized by the COAS for the troops at Lt. Col. B.I. Umar Sports Center, Opposite 7 Division, Nigerian Army Hospital, Maimalari Cantonment, Maiduguri.
Represented by the Theater Commander, Operation Lafiya Dole, Major General Yahaya Umar Farouq, assured the troops that their welfare, training as well as provision of adequate equipment remained his top priority and would continue to receive attention.
He also commended President Muhammadu Buhari for his continuous support to the Nigerian Army while assuring that the troops would remained committed to defend the integrity of the country.
General Attahiru further appealed to the soldiers to remained apolitical and be law abiding in the discharge of their constitutional responsibility.
Speaking on Couvd-19 pandemic, the COAS, said the disease has become a global issue and Nigerian Army would ensure that its officers participate in the National vaccination programme, while urging the troops to abide by the Covid-19 preventive measures spelt out by the government.
Earlier in his welcome address, Maj.-Gen. Farouq recognized and prayed for the sick and wounded soldiers responding to treatment at the medical hospitals in Maiduguri as well as the troops in action of Operation Lafiya Dole.
“We also remember our fallen heroes, who have paid the supreme price, may the good Lord continue to rest their soul in perfect peace”, he said.
He assured the troops that COAS has provided logistics and adequate facilities for their medical treatment, while commending their gallantry and bravery in the discharge of their professional responsibility in serving and protecting their fatherland.
