An Upper Area Court sitting in Kasuwan Nama , Jos, on Tuesday sentenced two traders to four years imprisonment each for attacking a man in a public toilet and stealing N20,000 from his wallet.
The police charged Abdullahi Zakari, 20, and Adamu Mohammed, 20, with theft, criminal force and criminal conspiracy.
The presiding Judge, Mr Daniel Damulak, sentenced Zakari and Mohanned after they pleaded guilty to the crime and begged the court for leniency.
Mr. Damulak who did not give the convicts an option to pay fine, warned that they should stay away from crimes.
Earlier, the prosecution counsel, Sgt. Ibrahim Gokwat told the court that the case was reported at the Laranto Police ‘B’ division, on Jan. 19, by the complainant, Uzairu Nasiru, who trades in Katako area in Jos.
Gokwat said that the complainant was attacked in November 2020 while he was taking bath in a public bathroom located around NEPA Zaria road.
He said that Zakari and Mohammed beat up the complainant and stole his wallet containing N20,000 and his Itel Phone worth N 3, 500.
The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of sections 59, 239 and 272 of the Plateau Penal Code law of Northern Nigeria 2017. (NAN)
