PATRICK ABANG, Calabar –
The Cross River State Commissioner for Rural Transformation, Edem Okokon Effiom, has warned politicians against the call for jettisoning the zoning arrangements in the state.
“Don’t truncate what’s has been in existence with your ambition. Zoning gives us peace, it spare us a lot of troubles, it has taken shape, it brings us essence of orderlies”.
The Commissioner made the call on Wednesday while speaking to the newly elected executive members of the Correspondent Chapel of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Cross River State Chapter, led by its Chairman, Mrs Eme Offiong of Voice of Nigeria,
Mr. Effiom explained that it is the turn of the Southern Senatorial District to produce Governor Ben Ayade’s successor come 2023 election in the state
According to him, the first executive governor since the creation of the present Cross River State comes from Cross River Central in the person of Clement Ebri, followed by Donald Duke from the South and Liyel Imoke from the Central, before the incumbent Ben Ayade from Cross River North.
“So it’s natural that the next governor should come from the South without any rancour”
Mr. Effiom, however, said his ministry has so far constructed 30km of rural roads in Obudu and Obanliku and has also intervened in water and sanitation projects in the state.
He noted that the ministry’s core mandates is that of rural transformation with intervention in school, health, water and sanitation.
