Over 10,000 youths from Akpabuyu, Calabar South and Bakassi LGAs on Wednesday threatened to dumped The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) if the party fail to present a credible deputy governorship candidate.
The youths who stormed the PDP Secretariat along Mary Slessor Highway, carried placards with inscriptions such as: “Emana ticket can guarantee us victory”, “Anything short of our demand, we shall sinked the party”, “ABC youths reject Emmana”, “What happened between Donald Duke and Mark Ukpo in 1998 will repeate itself”, “Emmana is not our choice,” among others.
Effiom Edet, a youth from Akpabuyu, who spoke to newsmen, said “If the PDP failed to give us opportunity to produce a good deputy, they should forget about winning the 2023 election in Cross River State”.
Paul Bassey from Bakassi also cautioned the party against fielding an unpopular deputy governorship candidate.
“We feel dismayed with the choice of Emmana,,she is not popular to give us victory”, he said.
Edem Odom from Calabar South said the party need to do a thorough search before picking a deputy governorship candidate.
Addressing the angry youths at the PDP Secretariat, Tom Edako the Cross River State Publicity Secretary, assured the youths that the party will look into their demands and further actions will be communicated .
“Our doors are always open, it is great that you have come, our candidate has a listening ear and we will communicate to him, the message is clear”, he said
