By MARY RONKE, Minna –
Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Kaduna Zonal Directorate, on Sunday , confirmed that its operatives arrested 11 suspected Internet fraudsters (also known as yahoo boys) in Niger State .
The confirmation of the raid is coming just after news reports claimed that gunmen disguised in EFCC uniforms raided a hotel and abducted some occupants. However, the EFCC has clarified that its operatives were responsible for the raid, which resulted in the arrest of 11 suspected internet fraudsters.
According to the EFCC, the operation took place on Thursday, February 27, 2025, at White Hotel in Chanchangi Local Government Area, Niger State. The suspects were arrested in broad daylight following credible intelligence about their alleged involvement in fraudulent internet activities.
The EFCC has emphasized that the operation was conducted professionally, and there was no abduction or banditry involved, contrary to initial reports. The Niger State Police Command has also dismissed the claims of banditry, urging the public to disregard the misleading reports.
Items recovered from them according to the commission include two vehicles and 13 phones of different brands.
The anti-graft agency said the suspects will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations.
