A security alert has been issued to airport security heads of a possible attacks.
In a memo signed by the FAAN Deputy General Manager, Administration and Logistics, S. M Mamman, says it received a warning from the Ministry of Aviation regarding security threats against airports in the country.
According to the memo dated April 9, 2021, Airports on the top list are that of Kaduna, Sokoto, Kano, Abuja and Lagos.
The memo requested all security chiefs at the affected airports the immediate enumeration counter-measures for safety of airports, facilities under purview.
The memo also asked the security chiefs to call an emergency meeting of airport security committees, recommend corrective steps, and share responsibility for successful implementation.
“Airports in Kaduna, Maiduguri, Sokoto, Kano, Abuja, and Lagos, among others, are at the top of the list for which criminals are considering carrying out attacks. Those airports, however, are being notified and asked to operate at a higher threat level”.
When contacted to speak on the memo, Director of Press Ministry of Aviation, James Odaudu said he had no knowledge of the letter.
“Honestly, I am not aware of the letter. I have not seen the letter and I cannot comment specifically on it”.
