A fire disaster has been averted by firefighters from The Anambra State Fire Service after a diesel tanker fell and spilt its content in Ogbunike, along Onitsha-Enugu Expressway.
The Director/Fire Chief of Anambra Fire Services, Mr Martin Agbili, disclosed this in a statement issued in Onitsha on Wednesday.
Mr. Agbili said the incident occured about 1:45 p. m on Tuesday.
He said: “The Anambra State Fire Service, received a distress call of a fallen 33,000 litres tanker while diverting to Ndumore Oil & Gas Filling Station along Onitsha-Enugu Expressway, between toll gate and slaughter, Ogbunike.
“Immediately, we deployed our fire trucks and firefighters to the incident scene which caused a heavy traffic at the Expressway.
“We thank God that the supposed fire outbreak which would have emanated from it was averted, and there was no loss of life,” he said.
He attributed the cause of the accident to lost of control by the tanker driver.
The fire chief noted that the quick and timely response and the use of their chemical foam compound prevented fire outbreak and they were able to save lives and public property around the area.
