Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has been vaccinated with the Oxford AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine.
The Governor who had the vaccine administered on him by Chairman of the Kwara State Medical Advisory Committee Dr. Femi Oladiji, described discovery of the vaccine as a watershed in the global campaign against the deadly virus.
Governor AbdulRazaq had earlier flagged off the vaccination exercise in Ilorin, the state capital, with frontline health workers first receiving their own jab in compliance with the directive of the Federal Government.
He said administration of the vaccine on the front liners was to build confidence of the public on safety of the vaccine.
Executive Secretary Kwara State Primary Health Care Agency, Dr Nusirat Elelu, said the state government took delivery of fifty-five thousand seven hundred and ninety doses of Astra Zeneca vaccines.
She said the ten days vaccination campaign would be conducted in four phases, as health workers, other front liners and strategic leaders across the state would be given 2 doses at 12 weeks interval.
Kwara State Technical Committee on COVID-19, Dr Femi Oladiji said he felt normal after being injected with the vaccine, calling on eligible Kwarans and Nigerians to receive the vaccines at their scheduled dates.
Chairman of the Nigeria Medical Association, Kwara Chapter Dr. Baba Issa, dismissed rumour that the Oxford Astra Zeneca vaccines being administered in Nigeria is the same as the one reportedly causing blood clotting in some countries.
