The Commissioner for Local Government And Chieftaincy Affairs, Bauchi State, Ahmed Aliyu Jalam, is dead.
He died in a fatal auto crash on Saturday, June 1st, 2024 along Misau – Darazo highway.
Jalam who was popularly called “Maikankana” died at the of 60.
Meanwhile, the Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has mourned the death of Jalam and described it “tragic.”
The Governor, in a media statement signed and made available to journalists in Bauchi on Sunday, by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mukhtar Gidado, said he was saddened by the unfortunate incident.
He described the deceased as a committed civil servant who championed numerous initiatives aimed at improving good governance and community relations.
Gidado said that the late Commissioner would be buried in his hometown, Jalam, in Dambam Local Government Area of Bauchi State.
“It is with profound sadness and a heavy heart that we announce the sudden death of the Honorable Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs Bauchi State, Hon. Ahmed Aliyu Jalam (Maikankana) who died as a result of a ghastly motor accident on Saturday 1st June, 2024.
“The tragic accident occurred on Misau – Darazo highway leading to his immediate death.
“Hon. Ahmed Jalam was a dedicated public servant, whose commitment to the development and well-being of his local communities was unwavering. During his life time he championed numerous initiatives aimed at improving good governance and community relations.
“Late Ahmed Jalam was known for his tireless work, integrity, and compassion for the people he served and his service will be remembered and cherished by all.
“His demise is deeply felt by His Excellency Governor Bala Mohammed, his cabinet colleagues, friends, family, and the countless individuals whose lives he touched during his lifetime,” he said.
He added that: “Governor Bala Mohammed on behalf of his family, government and the good people of Bauchi State extends his deepest condolences to the members of his immediate family and the entire people of the State and prayed that the Almighty Allah will forgive his shortcomings and grant him Aljanna Firdaus .
“Late Ahmed Aliyu Jalam died and left behind wife’s and many children and he will be buried today, Sunday 2nd June, 2024 in his home town, Jalam, Dambam Local Government Area of Bauchi State by 11:00am .
‘May his gentle soul rest in perfect peace, ameen.”
NATIONAL ACCORD reports that Jalam was first appointed Commissioner for Religious Affairs by Governor Bala Mohammed during his first administration.
When he was reelected, Governor Mohammed, appointed Jalam Commissioner for Local Government Affairs and Community Relations on August 18, 2023.
