Unknown gunmen have killed a police sergeant attached to the Cross River State Command.
It was learnt that the incident occured in the early hours of Saturday around Edgerton Street in Calabar, the state capital.
Meanwhile, the state police spokesman, SP Irene Ugbo, has confirmed the incident to newsmen.
SP Igbo said: “I have just gathered that a police sergeant was shot dead by unknown gunmen in the early hours of today (Saturday) and his rifle was taken away by the assailants,” she said.
She said investigation has begun with a view to unraveling those behind the act.
