The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Wednesday said about 1.126 million out of over 2,523,000 million registrations from June to December 2021 are invalid.
The figures according to INEC represents 44.6 per cent of the total registration.
The INEC, Chairman, Professor Mahmud Yakubu, disclosed this in Abuja when he briefed the media on the preparation of the commission for the 2023 general elections.
Presenting the data about the ongoing registration exercise which he said will end June this year, professor Mahmoud, maintained that all states of the federation were affected but some were affected more than the others.
According to him: “Bayelsa has eighty eight, thousand nine hundred and fifty invalid registration, out of one hundred and thirty two, six hundred and twenty eight, representing, sixty seven point one percent of total registration, with Lagos having the list of fourteen thousand, four hundred and fifteen invalid registration out of fifty thousand, seven hundred and seventy eight total registration, representing twenty eight point four percent of the total registration.
“Osun state was said to have highest number of registration under the period in review, with two hundred and eighteen, thousand, one hundred and forty two, while it has eighty eight thousand, six hundred and thirty invalid registration”.
“Imo was the list in the registration exercise as it recorded, sixteen thousand five hundred and eleven total registration, and seven thousand one hundred and fourteen, which is forty three point three percent of invalid registration”.
