Suspected members of the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) have reportedly attacked a military base in southern Borno, carting away with arms and ammunition after serious exchange of fire with the troops.
It was learnt that the terrorists invaded the Kwandi Village of Damboa LGA with 10 vehicles on Tuesday evening and started shooting sporadically, setting the military base on fire including an Amoured Personal Carrier (APC) and one gun truck.
A vigilante member of the CJTF, Abba Kaka, said the Insurgents seemed to have targeted the military base not the residences of the community as no villager neither any house was touched by the invaders, stressing that, they only concentrated in attacking the military base
“They came at about 4 p.m. and due to the sand storms it was difficult for soldiers to repel them. They burnt down the base including APC and four other vehicles.
“I can’t ascertain if there was any causality figure,” Abu said.
Meanwhile, the attack occurred, while the theater command was preparing to recieved the CDS and service chiefs in Maiduguri, which was also confirmed by security source who added that th attack lasted for about one hour and 30 minutes
According to the security source, “Our base at Kwamdi came under attack but we didn’t lose any of our personnel to the attackers, unfortunately the base suffered some damages.”
