A 35-years old man by name Hassan Bayaro, from Giza town in Keana local government area of Nasarawa State, has allegedly committed suicide due to multiple debts amounting to over 8 million naira.
The incident that occurred last week Saturday, in Angwan Nungu, a settlement in Lafia, the state capital, has left people in the area in a state of shock and disbelief.
The victim was last seen by many persons who knew him in Lafia, last week Thursday, the day he was believed to have committed the alleged suicide.
Bayaro, untill his death was a graduate of Mass Communication from Nasarawa State University, Keffi and a teacher with St. James Secondary School, Lafia.
Our correspondent gathered that Bayaro, is also into property business of buying houses and empty lands, then sale them, a business he was said to be into for years.
Investigation further shows that he might have committed suicide due to multiple debts and another is that, a lady from Doma, he so much desired to have as a wife, is not of the same faith, so there was resistance.
The decomposing corpse of the victim was discovered in his apartment in Angwan Nungu, opposite Nasarawa Clinic, last week Saturday, 22nd June, when some bad odour was oozing out.
Some friends of the deceased who begged for anonymity, disclosed that he had earlier sent SMS to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), where a complain was lodged against him over the debts, that he will commit suicide.
DSC Victor Jerry, Public Relations Officer (PRO) of NSCDC, Nasarawa State command, confirmed both multiple debt case and the suicide by the victim.
According to the PRO, ” Immediately we got the text, our men swung into action and met him in school. He also sent threat text message to his family, that if he was not allowed to marry his girlfriend he will commit suicide, but his family was against their union because they are of different faith” he said.
The decomposed body of the victim has since been buried last week Saturday, according to Islamic rites.
