BY RICHARD ABU, Nasarawa –
The Nasarawa State Government has been urged to facilitate the posting of security agents to the Sani Abacha International Park to help check the excesses of garage touts, who harassed unsuspecting passengers at the entrance of the gate.
The popular park is located at Mararaba axis of the state along Abuja-Keffi express road.
The General Manager of Sani Abacha International Park, Mr. Alfons Ekuma Egwugave made the call today in an interview with our correspondent in his office.
Mr. Egwu said the Sani Abacha International Park, which is one of the best among the state owned transport companies in the country has been devalued as a result of the activities of touts in the park.
He regretted that the youths in their efforts to struggle over passengers sometimes tear their bags or clothes, a situation why passengers don’t like patronizing the park.
In his words ” this is a good project done with good intentions by the His Excellency, Governor Abdullahi Sule and it is not good to allow it to be mismanagement. There is a need for either the police, army or the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to be in charge of the gate to avoid molesting passengers.
Mr. Egwu said on assumption of office about a month ago, he has been holding series of meetings with relevant stakeholders in the transport sector especially leaders of the National Union of Road Transport Worker (NURTW) on the need for them to patronize the park.
He also advised those that have paid for space, shops and offices to come and take up the spaces for business activities to fully commence in the motor park.
