ARMSTRONG ALLAHMAGANI, Bauchi –
No fewer than 204 unemployed youths have been trained and empowered by the North East Development Commission (NEDC) in information and communication technology (ICT).
The NEDC also donated 10 tractors, 28 deep plough tractors and some farm implements to the Bauchi State Government to boost agricultural production in the state.
The Manager Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Commission, Alhaji Mohammed Alkali at the graduation ceremony of the trainees which held at the Government House, Bauchi on Friday, said that the programme was to aimed at alleviating poverty and reducing youths’ joblessness.
He said that the 204 youths trained are in addition to 176 graduates earlier trained and empowered by the commission.
Alhaji Alkali, who noted that the trainees were given starter packs and N20,000 each, also said noting the commission had N4,080,000 on the 204 trainees.
He appealed to the Bauchi State Government to assist the beneficiaries with resources and other things that they would need to keep them going.

He said: “We have given these to enhance production capacity of smallholder farmers and improve their livelihood in the state. We have handed over some critical and other farm implements that include; 10 tractors, 28 deep plough tractors, 10 planters, 10 boom sprayers, 18 trailer bodies and quantities of 3-wheel tractors.”
In a response, the Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, expressed gratitude to the NEDC for been meticulous in their areas of interventions in ICT and agricultural development.
The governor, who was represented by his Deputy, Baba Tela, said the commission has been a major stakeholder in infrastructure development of the state and other states in the region.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Faisal Dahiru, who was trained on graphics design commended both the state government and the Federal Government for the empowerment programme, saying that it will help reduce poverty and unemployment among the youths in the state and the northeast region.
