The Peace Ambassadors Center for Humanitarian Aid and Empowerment (PACHE) in partnership with Universal Peace Federation (UPF) has conferred on the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of North East Development Commission (NEDC), Alhaji Mohammed Goni Alkali, the prestigious and distinguished award as Ambassador of Peace.
The President of PACHE, Ambassador Ahmed Shehu, said as the world celebrate peace day, it is imperative for the center to recognise and honour notable key leaders in the society with the award in recognition of their humility, accountability, transparency, active and positive efforts, contributions, support and assistance to peace and development processes as well as rehabilitation and reconstruction infrastructural facilities in North East.
Ambassador Shehu stated this Thursday at a conference held at the El Kanemi Hall in the University of Maiduguri to commemorate International Day of Peace 2023, with the theme,” Actions for Peace, Our Ambition for the #Global Goals”.
He added that the Universal Peace Federation and Peace Ambassadors center identified some distinguished leaders for the award which is critical for recognition as catalyst for strategic and developmental peace building process and actions plans.
The UNDP North East Head Office Manager, Dr. Moncef Kartas while presenting the award to Alhaji Akali congratulated him and appreciated the top management of the commission.
Other awardees include Professor Mohammed Tar the , Borno state Commissioner of Information and Internal Security, Usman Aliyu and Zainab Challube among others
The Borno State Chairman, Network for Civil Society Organizations (NECSOB), Ambassador Bulama Abiso said CSO in the state and North East at large has been part of the moving force and successful prevalence of peace and development from the on set to the post insurgency era.
He added that peace can not be achieved anywhere without security and the traditional institution who are the community leaders as well as religious leaders dealing directly with the people and more closer to their subjects are very influential stakeholders for sustainable peace in the society and development.
The UNDP North East Office, Manager , Dr. Moncef Kartas assured that the UN will continue to ensure the prevalence of peace noting that without peace, no meaningful development can take place any where .
He said UNDP has been working assiduously with the government to transform and develop the state among others while assuring to maintain the tempo and improve in other areas of humanitarian aid in line with the UN operational guidelines, mandates and missions
In his remarks, the MD/CEO, NEDC , Ambassador Mohammed Goni Alkali appreciated the award and thanked the organizers for their recognition and honour while pledging to continue to do the good works that people and the society appreciates.
The NEDC MD also pledged to collaborate with the management of the University of Maidugiri in establishing a state of the art museum.
