The North East Development Commission (NEDC) in collaboration with Abubakar Tatari Ali Polytechnic Bauchi has organized a 3 day training workshop for registered private security agents and personnel of volunteer security groups in combating insecurity in the north east of Nigeria.
The training workshop which has the theme: The role of informal security operatives In combating insecurity in the north east of Nigeria”, is scheduled to take place in Maiduguri from Monday 26th to Wednesday, 28th December, 2022.
The North East Training Programme Coordinator, Dr. Mohammed Suleiman Awwal in his welcome address, said the training was aimed at exposing the informal security personnel to the nitty gritty of security and crimes prevalence with a view to creating awareness and imparting knowledge on the participants to be more vigilant, committed and effective in complementing the efforts and sacrifices of the formal security agents at the local and state levels and region at large.
According to him, the programme is being held in all the six states of the north east, namely, Adamawa, Taraba, Gombe, Yobe, Bauchi and Borno states.

The Coordinator noted that the participants would be educated on terrorism, insurgency,, international relations and diplomacy, citizenship, migration, mass media and national security among othes.
He urged the participants to be loyal and dedicated to all the training technicalities and enlightenment in order for them to fully understand what it takes to fully secure the region.
He also assured that the technical team is fully prepared and equipped with resource persons that have been delivering on crimes and security having trained similar organizations or groups in the past.
In his remarks, The North East Development Commission (NEDC), Borno State Coordinator of the Training Programme, Engr Mohammed Umar, urged the participants to count themselves luck and appreciate the efforts of NEDC in training them on the technicalities of security challenges, terrorism, insurgency and other crimes in the society.
While noting that the theme of the training workshop is apt in line with the prevailing security challenges, Engr. Umar, however, urged the participants to display high level of professionalism in the discharge of their security responsibilities to the society towards restoration of peace in the north east.
“As stakeholders, it is important to know that your role in the society as informal security operatives in combating insecurity in the north east of Nigeria can never be over emphasized”, he said.
He also charged them to comply with the principles and techniques of private security agents and personnel volunteers group in the north east region.
Some of the participants, who spoke to our correspondent, said the training was an eye opener and they have the high expectations that they would be exposed and the training will create a kind of knowledge and awareness on security issues and operations which will go a long way in assisting and guiding their operations.
