A Non Governmental Organization (NGO) Life Helpers Initiative (LHI) has launched a Women Situation Room in Sokoto State.
This situation room, according to Mr Tayo Fatinikun, the Executive Director of Life Helpers Initiave (LHI) is aimed at building young ladies’ knowledge, skills and abilities around different areas of human endeavours including political participation and decision making processes.
Mr Tayo who affirmed that the Women Situation Room is tilted towards building women into political strongholds, added that, it will further improve their potentials, create awareness, and trigger the power to support one another through timely information and knowledge.
The new situation room project is in furtherance of, “Enhancing Women Participation In Decision Making On Political Processes” being executed by Life Helpers Initiative (LHI) with support from the EU ACT, in partnership with British Council.
Life Healpers Initiative (LHI) in the last 17 years of its existence has positively touched countless lives in the states of Sokoto, Kebbi, Zamfara, Ebonyi, Bauchi, Borno, Yobe, Adamawa and beyond.
While reassuring that their mission is to develop people rightly, Mr Tayo said, the Women Situation Room shall deploy three key approaches of using “role models, male champions and the media” to ensure that in the next 5 years, there shall be an upsurge in generation of women leaders.
“We will develop a work plan to be holding a one hour monthly radio programme purely dedicated to women based issues for the next nine months aside periodic sessions with women leaders from across the grassroots”, she said.
Speaking on her part, Sokoto State Commissioner for Women and Children Affairs, Hon Kulu Abdullahi Sifawa said the programme is helpful as it will improve women in all endeavours.
“The programme will enhance welfare of women. Now, we are approaching politics and we will need more women in decision making. We thank Almighty God that with the type of enlightenment we are getting, I am sure we will get to the peak of attaining equity some day.
” I am encouraging our role models to put up the effort as lives are being transformed for good through their pieces of advice and actions”. Hon Kulu noted.
The commissioner noted that they are not demanding for too much but a scenario were women are adequately represented.
