The Comptroller General of Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Muhammad Babandede, said that the service would soon embark on an e-project that would help in checking irregular migration in the country.
Mr. Babandede said irregular migrants without valid documents would be prosecuted, adding that, nobody is allowed to stay in the country without obtaining necessary permits.
The Comptroller General disclosed this on Friday shortly after Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal commissioned the Command’s new office complex.
According to him, the e-border project, would include the installation of surveillance cameras that would view 5Km distance across 84 border post in the country.
While stressing that the e-border project will equally enable patrol vehicles to transmit all their activities at the border post to the Immigration National Headquarters, Abuja, The NIS boss noted that the e-serve would its personnel to notify other security agencies to beaf up security in certain areas when necessary.
The NIS Comptroller General also disclosed that they have commenced test running of the e-border project in Illela border of Sokoto state after which it would be extended to others.
“The e-border pilot project had commenced with Illela border and in the next coming one year all other 84 locations across the country would be properly installed and operational which would be a huge investment to national security”
While noting that the new office complex that is being commssioned in Sokoto NIS was in fulfilment of his promise to establish two each year, Babandede underscored the improtance of conductive working environment which according to him help boost staff morales to deliver optimally.
He, however, commended President Muhammadu Buhari for his foresight and support to the nation’s secueity agencies, while appealing to his officers to shun any form of corruption and carry out their jobs professionally.
Speaking before commissioning the new office complex, Governor Tambuwal applauded Comptroller Babandede for his giant strides towards transforming NIS to a reputable agency that would help increase revenue to the nation as well.
