The Federal Government is to set up a cashew value chain working committee to address the problems and challenges affecting the growth of the cashew value chain in the country.
The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Alhaji Sabo Nanono stated this at an interactive session and signing of MoU between the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) West Africa PRO-Cashew project in Abuja.
Alhaji Nanono noted that cashew generated about $500 million for the country in 2018 and identified the importance since the 1990s as a second non-oil export foreign earner for the country.
The minister stressed the need for the committee with support of the USDA West Africa PRO-Cashew project will develop a ten years strategy plan for Nigeria Cashew value chain.
Project Coordinator, USDA west Africa PRO- Cashew project, Mr. Jean Francois Gary said the MoU would support policies and as well attract investors into the cashew sector of the country and promised to synergise with the ministry in achieving the objective of the project.
