The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC has expressed displeasure over what it described as a deliberate refusal of some states government to implement the new national minimum wage signed into law since 2018.
To this end, the National Executive Council of NLC has directed all states NLC councils where the national minimum wage of #30,000 is yet to be paid to immediately proceed on an indefinite industrial action.
This is contains in a communique issued and signed by the President of NLC, Comrade Ayuba Wabba at the end of the National Executive Council meeting of NLC held in Abuja.
The communiqué warns that besides the directive to workers in such states to proceed on strike, the NLC NEC would take very drastic action within the law against states government that refused to pay the new minimum wage and minimum pension.
The communiqué also rejects the concession of Nigeria’s airports and planned privatization of the air transport sector, describing the move as a disservice to the Nigerian workers especially those employed in the aviation sector.
On the report on electricity tariff, NLC NEC urged the government to immediately address the conditions within its control that are driving up electricity tariff in the country.
The communiqué also calls on the Federal Government to find ways of shielding Nigerian citizens from the volatilities in the international crude oil market prices, demanding that the template used in determining the pump price of PMS should be reviewed for the benefit of Nigerians.
