The Nigerian Stock Exchange All Share Index on Wednesday advanced by 0.2 per cent to 25,460.00 points as sentiments remained positive and investors took position in Stanbic IBTC Holdings PLC shares following the company’s positive half year 2020 performance and interim dividend announcement.
Accordingly, month-to-date gain increased to 0.5 per cent while year-to-date loss moderated to 5.2 per cent.
The total volume of trades declined by 83.1 per cent to 181.32 million units, valued at N1.12 billion and exchanged in 3,408 deals.
Transnational Corp of Nigeria PLC was the most traded stock by volume at 26.79 million units while Zenith Bank PLC was the most traded stock by value at N220.67 million.
Sectoral performance was mixed, following 0.6 per cent gains in the Consumer Goods, 0.4 per cent and Banking indices, even as losses were recorded in the Insurance and Oil & Gas with 1.1 per cent and 0.2 per cent indices. However, the Industrial Goods index was flat.
Market sentiment, as measured by the market breadth, was positive as 18 tickers gained relative to 10 losers.
Cornerstone Insurance PLC and Union Diagnostic & Clinical Services PLC topped the gainers’ list with 8.3 per cent and 8.0 per cent respectively, while Academy Press and (-10.0%) and AXA Mansard Insurance PLC recorded the largest losses of the day with 10 per cent and 9.2 per cent respectively.
Meanwhile, the naira was flat at N386.00/USD and N440.00/USD at the Investors’ and Exporters’ (I&E) window and parallel market, respectively.
