The National Universities Commission (NUC) has accredited no fewer than 21 academic courses for Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi.
Also accredited were all courses offered at the seven Colleges of Education and Polytechnics affiliated to the University.
In addition, all the nine Courses offered at the World Bank supported project of the University, the Sustainable, Procurement, Environmental and Social Standard Enhancement Projects – Center of Excellence. (SPESSE-CE) were equally accredited fully.
These were contained in a statement signed by the Director, Directorate of Information and Public Relations, ATBU, Bauchi, Zailani Bappa and made available to journalists on Wednesday.
According to Bappa, the Commission similarly approved the establishment of three additional Faculties in the University which are the Faculty of Computing, the Faculty of Dentistry and the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences.
He said that the three Faculties will run a total of 56 different departments.
The Director of Information pointed out that the new developments were disclosed by the Acting Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Sani Usman Kunya, who added that the approvals came at a time when ATBU was ever poised to achieve excellence in all academic pursuits.
According to him, the acting VC said that the University sought for the accreditation of 25 courses from the NUC but got 21 of the courses fully accredited and three of them got an interim accreditation while one course (Urban and Regional Planning) was denied accreditation.
Bappa quoted Kunya as saying: “We are at this point in time exerting our total commitment to ensure that all the unfortunate problems facing the department of Urban and Regional Planning are fully addressed.”
He said that the University has already put all measures on ground for the successful take-off of the new faculties and departments.
It will be recalled that the University’s Faculty of Veterinary Medicine has successfully taken-off this Academic Session.
